Commercial Bank of Dubai (CBD) Signs the UAE Climate-Responsible Companies Pledge with the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE)

Commercial Bank of Dubai (CBD), one of the UAE's leading national banks, is proud to announce its commitment to a sustainable future by signing the UAE Climate Pledge in collaboration with the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE). This pledge is a pivotal initiative launched under the UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative, aimed at enhancing and increasing private sector engagement in the country's drive towards decarbonization.

The signing ceremony took place at the 13th National Dialogue for Climate Ambition (NDCA) event in Dubai, hosted by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment in collaboration with Dubai Chambers. The initiative coincides with the UAE's Year of Sustainability as the country prepares to host COP28 later this year.

The pledge commitments include organisations stepping up their collective efforts to combat climate change by measuring and reporting their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions transparently, developing ambitious science-based plans to reduce their carbon footprint, and sharing these plans with the UAE government to contribute to achieving the national net-zero target by 2050.

Moreover, signatories pledge to factor in climate change mitigation and adaptation as core values and principles of their businesses and operational models.

Othman Ibrahim Bin Hendi, Chief Sustainability and Customer Officer at Commercial Bank of Dubai, stated, "Our commitment to signing the UAE Climate Pledge reflects our dedication to a sustainable future. This pledge is a vital part of the UAE's drive towards decarbonization, guided by the UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative. CBD has proactively taken measures to combat climate change, and we have recently unveiled our roadmap to achieve carbon-neutral operations by 2030.

Bin Hendi added, "We are dedicated to measuring and transparently reporting our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and we will share this data with the UAE government to contribute to achieving the national net-zero target by 2050."

CBD is committed to supporting impactful and purpose-driven global environmental challenges. In 2022, the bank introduced its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy. In 2023, CBD launched its inaugural USD 500 Million green bond as part of its continued commitment to sustainability.

أعلن بنك دبي التجاري، أحد البنوك الوطنية الرائدة في دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة، عن التزامه بمستقبل مستدام من خلال توقيعه على "تعهد الشركات المسؤولة مناخياً" التي أطلقتها وزارة التغير المناخي والبيئة. ويعد هذا التعهد مبادرة محورية تم إطلاقها لمواكبة المبادرات الاستراتيجية التي تسعى لتحقيق الحياد المناخي بحلول عام 2050، كما أنها تهدف إلى تعزيز مشاركة القطاع الخاص في توجهات الدولة نحو خفض الانبعاثات الكربونية.

وتم التوقيع على الاتفاقية خلال فعاليات الحوار الوطني الثالث عشر للطموح المناخي، والذي نظمته وزارة التغير المناخي والبيئة بالتعاون مع غرف دبي. وتتزامن هذه المبادرة مع "عام الاستدامة" في دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة واستعدادها لاستضافة مؤتمر الأطراف (COP28) الشهر القادم.

وتلتزم المؤسسات الموقعة على التعهد بتكثيف جهودها الجماعية لمكافحة تغير المناخ من خلال قياس انبعاثات الغازات الدفيئة  والإبلاغ عنها بشفافية، ووضع خطط علمية طموحة للحد من بصمتها الكربونية، ومشاركة هذه الخطط مع الجهات الحكومية المختصة للمساهمة في تحقيق الهدف الوطني للسعي نحو تحقيق الحياد المناخي بحلول عام 2050.

علاوة على ذلك، يتعهد الموقعون بإدارة التخفيف من تداعيات التغير المناخي والتكيف معها ضمن القيم والمبادئ الأساسية لأعمالهم ونماذجهم التشغيلية.

وقال عثمان إبراهيم بن هندي، الرئيس التنفيذي لشؤون الاستدامة والعملاء في بنك دبي التجاري: "إن التزامنا بالتوقيع على تعهد الشركات المسؤولة مناخياً يعكس التزامنا الراسخ بمستقبل مستدام. ويعد هذا التعهد مبادرة محورية تدعم توجهات دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة نحو خفض الانبعاثات الكربونية، والتي تهدف إلى تحقيق الحياد المناخي بحلول عام 2050. وقد اتخذ بنك دبي التجاري تدابير استباقية لمكافحة تغير المناخ، حيث أعلنا مؤخرًا عن خططنا الطموحة لتخفيض الانبعاثات الكربونية بحلول عام 2030."

وأضاف عثمان بن هندي: "باعتبارنا البنك الذي يدعم طموحات الدولة، فإننا ملتزمون بقياس انبعاثاتنا من الغازات الدفيئة والإبلاغ عنها بشفافية، وسنشارك هذه البيانات مع الجهات الحكومية المختصة للمساهمة في تحقيق الهدف الوطني للوصول إلى صافي انبعاثات صفرية بحلول عام 2050."

ويلتزم بنك دبي التجاري بدعم التحديات البيئية والمناخية العالمية، ففي عام 2022، قام البنك بتطوير استراتيجية شاملة للمعايير البيئية والاجتماعية والحوكمة. وفي عام 2023، طرح البنك إطار التمويل المستدام الخاص به كما أطلق بنجاح أول إصدار لسنداته الخضراء بقيمة 500 مليون دولار أمريكي.
